Ilmo .Sr. Dr. D. Rafael Martínez Sanz

El doctor José Goyanes Capdevilla gallego nacido
en el cuarto final del siglo XIX y que vivió la primera
mitad del XX, murió en Tenerife con 88 años tras vivir
allí 20 años. Fue un alumno muy brillante en el
bachillerato, licenciatura, doctorado y especialidad
quirúrgica. Cirujano muy hábil, que hizo más de 12.000
intervenciones. Fue un innovador en cirugía vascular,
torácica, plástica, neurocirugía, cervical, oncológica,
donde además hizo aportaciones en el diagnóstico
de laboratorio y radiológico. Sufragó un laboratorio
de cirugía experimental y lo que sería el Instituto
Nacional del Cáncer. Destacó en otros muchos
campos. Viajero y políglota. Recibió gran cantidad
de merecidos honores, y aun siendo mucho más que
un innovador en muchos campos quirúrgicos,
recordando a un sabio renacentista, su figura se fue
perdiendo.

Summary

Dr. José Goyanes Capdevilla, a Galician born in the
last quarter of the 19th century and who lived in the
first half of the 20th century, died in Tenerife at the
age of 88 after living there for 20 years. He was a very
brilliant student in high school, a degree, a doctorate
and a surgical specialty. A very skilled surgeon, he
performed more than 12,000 operations. He was an
innovator in vascular, thoracic, plastic, neurosurgery,
cervical and oncological surgery, where he also made
contributions to laboratory and radiological diagnosis.
He funded an experimental surgery laboratory and
what would become the National Cancer Institute.
He excelled in many other fields. A traveler and
polyglot, he received many well-deserved honors,
and despite being much more than an innovator in
many surgical fields, reminiscent of a Renaissance
sage, his figure has been lost.
