Summary

Antonio Sierra y Carbó, was an eminent Spanish vaccinologist, who practiced in Madrid and Puerto Rico at the end of the 19th century. He is mentioned as a physician from El Ingenio (Gran Canaria) in documents from the Ramírez-Juárez Family Archive, which led the authors to expand on such information. Despite his brief professional performance on the island, since he died three years after his arrival, his relevance in the communitary health of the time as well as the lack of references to him in Canarian medical literature has justified the realization of the present study. The authors wish to point out that this article is only an advance on the matter as they have a more comprehensive publication in preparation in which the character is analyzed in the social and health context of the time.
